Course Structure
The Leicester College of Performing Arts is a three year full time Professional Dancers course leading to the Leicester college of Performing Arts Diploma at present, the course also incorporates vocational qualifications from the following awarding bodies BTDA ISTD RAD LAMDA which are accredited by the Qualification and curriculum authority and the CDET
The course structure of practical work in all three years follows the same programme of study which aims to give the broadest possible training and to educate the student to think and act as professionals. We believe in working with the individuals potential enabling them to pursue their chosen career.
Aims and Objectives.1st yr Student (Introductory year)
An introduction year acquainting the new student with the differences that are to be found in the various styles of technique and aspects of the theatre. Including Classical Ballet, Pas de Deux, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Singing, Music Theory, Drama, Anatomy, Body Control and Contextual Studies.
Aims and Objectives.2nd yr Student (Development Year)
To follow up and build on the ideas and intentions of the first year, encouraging the student to explore performance skills, allowing the individuals personality and confidence to develop.
Aims and Objectives.3rd yr Graduate Student (Professional Year)
Performance is the key word for the whole of this year, with aspects of performance being an integral part of every class. Students are expected to work as a professional guided by the college to audition and gain employment within the industry.
All three years have continual assessments and reports throughout the course to monitor progress. Internal productions are worked on and performed in house during the year, such as the Christmas Singing Concert and the Choreographic Competition which gives students the opportunity to be creative and put their key skills into practise. The college is also affiliated to the Leicester Performing Arts Youth Ballet Company who give students the chance to work on and perform full length productions, and, by doing so, they gain more knowledge and a better understanding of styles within classical dance.
In the summer, the College work for an end of year show, performed at the Melton Theatre reflecting the wide breadth of teaching including, Dance, Drama, Singing and Musical Theatre. The show is a dynamic and eclectic selection of performances in which all three years are involved, this acts as a showcase for the third year students to which agents, choreographers and directors are invited.
